World War II

Post by Jerry »

Could I recommend Brian Pears site, which covers IN DETAIL the war years 1939-45 in the North East (in day by day form)? There is lots of background information; maps, films and songs of the day, ships built, a place index and much else.

Your ageing relations would find this evocative and illuminating, I think - and you may find it of interest yourself. It's not easy to find all this NE info in one place.

In South Shields itself, the Local Studies library has a typescript by Miss Amy Flagg of Westoe Village, detailing German bombing raids 1939-45, with precise locations.

Thanks Baldy. The original address I gave will get the site through the normal search engine procedure. I edited the URL after the original post, perhaps that's why the address there doesn't work.

Thanks jerry & baldy.

Looks as though it will be interesting. Will check it out when I'm feeling able to concentrate. As I said in other post, I dont feel up to it and I'm off too bed.
