leechmere

hi all has anyone got any info on a ship called the leechmere which was built in sunderland 1880`s and sank in the north sea in 1898 posibly in stormey wheather all crew were lost my great grandfather james gunn was on that ship at the time

go to looking for old shipmates ships nostalgia you may get some help from there.

no more down the docks i'll be seen.
just tell me old shipmates.
i'm taking a trip mates.
and i'll see them on fiddler' green.

If you have taken Siam Sams advice, you will probably have found out that she was a small steam collier under the command of Captain Butter, which on the 23 March 1898, left the River Tyne bound for London, and no more was heard of her, presumably foundered at sea.

Interestingly, there was a short entry in The Shetland Times recording the death of a Shetland seaman who must have been one of the crew.
