Thanks for sharing your photo's, my dad if he was still alive would have liked to view them - he served his time there in the late fourties and early fifties and later went to see on the Gorjistan one of Readheads built ships I believe.

My Dad served his time as a riveter at Readheads in the 50s, did his national service mid 50s then back to Readheads till he retired 10 years ago. I'm guessing our Dads would have known each other.

Excellent photos caygawolf, I worked there when it was TDE in the late eighties, and it brought back a few memories (like crap dock money)
Anyway, I'm still working there today, but it looks a bit different.

great photo Mr A! Shame the river looks so empty, even when I was a kid there were ships in the river. My Dad was working at TDE right up until it closed. The pics of the yard were taken after that when there was no one around.

Chances are I probably know your dad. What was his name and trade? PM me if you don't want to say over the net.

Dad is Malcolm Drummond, riveter by trade though he retrained when they did away with rivets! Hes in a couple of those photos, the black n white one of the lone riveter

Yes I remember your dad, the name came to me straight away, I'm not sure if he was a Blacksmith or caulker or something like that in the end, I'll find out tomorrow when I ask a few of the 'old soldiers'.
Bearing in mind it's 20 year since I worked there, so it's at least 20 year since I saw him.

think he was caulker, not blacksmith. Hes still going strong, though on his own since my mam died. going to the gym 3 times a week until these last few months and playing bowls several times a week!
