Mabel was the person who asked Catherine Cookson to sign it,
could any Mabel.
It's probably worth a few bob, but the most valuable signed
books are the ones with only the signature of the author on
and not dedicated to the person who got it signed.

Yes, Mr Smith. I wondered if Mabel had lost it or family had given it away by accident. I am not bothered about making a profit on my 20p. I just wanted to give it back :D St. Clare's Hospice got the proceeds

wondering where it had got to. :D

another? I haven't sent a first one yet.

Incidently, I've just found out that a long standing fiend of mine is in there. :(

I've had two other friends who were in there as well, both long gone now. :(

Mabel was Wilfred Pickles wife, he used to do Workers Playtime on the Light programme in the 50s and on the show he had a quiz. His favourite saying was "put the money on the table Mabel".

I got a signed photo from Wilfred Pickles and his wife Mabel in about 1955, that's
when they did their radio show "Workers Playtime" where they went around to
different factories around the country. Can't remember what happened to the photo
though.
