I've never heard of the 60 shilling shop which sold suite's

but I did know of a fifty shilling tailors which sold suits.

Their factory for making the suits was on Western Approach, it started
off as Prices The Taylors, then Fifty Shilling Tailors, then Burtons Tailors
until the company went out of existence.

The Fifty Shilling Tailors was started up in 1905 by a bloke called Price,
they had shops all over the country.

my mum was a seamstress at prices factory at western approach, she was a fantastic craftswomen, the directors used to ask for her to make their clothing even when it was run by the major company based in leeds

My sister worked there when it was Price's, she was a seamstress, and
worked there for about three years before eventually moving down
South. I worked directly opposite the factory on Western Approach.

memory playing tricks i was sure it was the 60 shilling shop............i remember the shop in the main st of shields same side as Boots(left hand side facing the market square) i don,t suppose turnups are still the fashion ?

The last suit I bought was to wear at my sisters wedding, and that was about two years before I joined the army so that would make it 1956 when they got married and they are still married.

my mam also worked in a factory in western approach south shields but i think it was called john colliers ?

I remember "The Saturday Night" suite by John Collier.

You got a 45 rpm flexible plastic single record which played "The Saturday Night" suite ditty - realy tacky.
