Anyone know the name of this well known father & son?

They both had the same first name & surname. It was a distinctive name, possibly Scottish.

The father was often named in the Shields Gazette possibly in connection with Local Government. The son was a Reporter for BBC Radio Scotland in the eighties.

It was a name that could easily trip off the tongue, but now we are old codgers we cannot remember it and it is driving us crazy!

Was his father the Borough engineer ...something of that nature.

He could well have been the Borough Engineer. I had been thinking along those lines, and had wondered about Chief Surveyor, Architect, or Town Planner.

Wasn't Reevel Alderson Director of Environmental Health for South Tyneside Council?
Nice bloke, had lots of dealings with him in the 1980s.
