Blackberry picking season

Post by heaintheavy »

....is nearly upon us. Over the last few years my young daughter and I have found that you just cannot beat Marsden Old Quarry for it's plentiful supply of blackberries.

The two best places are the thicket on top of the zig zag path and the bushes on top of the highest point next to the stonewall that runs up from Valley Lane..

If I remember correctly we used to get a weeks holiday from school in October and it was known as blackberry week.

Just got back from the Norfolk Broads and their blackberries are either a different type to ours or are tiny/later ripening.
Got a load from over the back from us but the council saw fit to hack them all down before they were all ready for pickng. Still ive got enough to brew with i reckon.

We got our first 'crop' of the season on Saturday afternoon from Marsden Old Quarry. There was quite a few like minded others including someone picking blackcurrents too.

Next stop store for the pastry ingredients re. making a pie.
