I have a copy of the 1895 OS map on which is marked Athletic Ground to the North of Mowbray Road. Is this the location of the stadium?

Thanks for the press cuttings very helpful.

My Grandad often used to talk about the Seaplane sheds and open air swimming pool down beside The Groyne. I have seen the remains in the sand at low tide but again can't find any photo's.....very strange I thought it would and should have been recorded.

I have many old photo's of Shields if anyone's interested.

Never ceases to amaze me how few records there are of recent history - last century or so - go back to the Romans and we know just about everything!

I dropped in to Shields Library when I was last at home and found them very helpful in the reference section - well worth an hour or three.

My family are the McKie's who lived in Shelley Avenue most of their lives. I was born in their front bedroom too many years ago. Granda was a deputy at Whitburn Colliery until an accident forced him into early retirement. Despite a serious injury to his eye he still played a mean game of darts usually at The White Horse or Rose and Crown.

I knew a George McKie who was a deputy at Harton Colliery, if I remember correctly he
lived in Dunlop Crescent.

Greetings from A Geordie on Crusade in the South.
My Dad worked in The Scotia bar at The Dogs Bowl during the Mid 60s. The bar had a mannequin of a highlander regalia...quite scary for a kid. Recall the dog track and bowling alley being in use at the time but haven't been able to find any photos anywhere..not epven the Gazette! Anyone have any?
