The Floating Dock gate
The Floating Dock gate
Can anyone tell me if one of the towns most familiar sights of what appears to be the roof of a house sticking out of the sea just south of Trow rocks is still visible. I remember being told it was a dock gate which whilst being towed from the river on the 19th October 1919, broke loose and went aground and despite many efforts to salvage it the gate stayed rooted solid where it came to rest.
It was renowned as a very good place to catch crabs and lobsters.

I may be wrong but I think I read some considerable time ago that it was gone.
