Doll in the Lighthouse- The Sequel

Post by Sandy »

In the Sunset Photos topic on the General Board, the chat turned round to Dolly Peel and how she and her husband went to sea as pirates, etc. (...have a look for full story...) and I added my Gran's gem of a 'story' that Dolly's husband continued seafaring and she would wait at the mouth of the Tyne for his ship coming in. Of course, one day it didn't and now she stands there, watching for evermore.

offthewall has pointed out a possible connection with the 'doll in the lighthouse'......this theory is very exciting.......and now, of course, there is this lovely statue of Dolly Peel looking out over the Tyne......could these two 'Dollys' be one and the same?

What do you all think?

TRUE REASON WHY DOLLS HEAD IS IN LIGHTHOUSE.

Its a sad fact that when the Lighthouse was built many builders and labourers were frightened to go to the end of the pier.

So they used people who not right in head.

One such person was Gerbil Memor ,(Sad to say relative) his real name

was Harry but we called him Gerbil because it was his pet name.

He liked playing with dolls. And at forty three even other simpletons thought that odd.

So for a laugh a few of them took his favourite Marcy from his bag, ripped her head off and concreted her into the lighthouse.

Gerbil Memor was devastated and long after the lighthouse was finished

you could see him everyday walk the length of the pier to see his beloved

Marcy.

Till one day we had him committed.
