More of the Same

Post by hartman045 »

Here are a few more of my 'vintage snaps 'I try to choose an interesting & entertaining cross section for everyone. I hope you like them. And there's more soon

Sportsweek Parade c1973. Youth groups mainly had the decorated floats. It was quite a parade then and difficult to photograph for the crowds. I hope I haven't posted this already. KodacolorII home processed

Image

c1970. This negative was a bit distressed. Taken with a Canon SLR. 450mm telephoto lens. This is a view from somewhere past the market Bridge looking upriver. This view now is an empty landscape.

Image

West Holborn. Can't remember where though. c1980 CANON A1 (I think)

Image

Shouldn't have left it out in the rain! Fire Station doing a community exercise I think I recall. c1970s

Image

More from the Burndept, River Drive. ? Simpson (Billy) the maintenance tinsmith hard at work below his 'lovely ladies' c1969

Yes it had crossed my mind. At the moment I am compiling a book about St Mar'ys (Heworth)graveyard monuments and memorials. The stories behind the stones.
I have so many photographs of South Shields I may look at it again and as they are all mainly from the 1960s they are within living memory and not too remote as some pictorils essays of home towns tend to be. I also have a huge collection of Burndept/Vidor Batteries photographs.

The toy fire engines (two) were made by my dad's mate who was a fireman at the time. The other one was outside Fulwell Fire Station where he was 'stationed.' They were collection boxes for the benevolent fund.

i also remember the toy rat the firemen used to have on a bit string, on a friday night when the woman walked past the station they used to pull the string and watched as they all started to scream when the rat wizzed past their feet
