Re: More of the Same
Yes it had crossed my mind. At the moment I am compiling a book about St Mar'ys (Heworth)graveyard monuments and memorials. The stories behind the stones.
I have so many photographs of South Shields I may look at it again and as they are all mainly from the 1960s they are within living memory and not too remote as some pictorils essays of home towns tend to be. I also have a huge collection of Burndept/Vidor Batteries photographs.

Re: More of the Same
The toy fire engines (two) were made by my dad's mate who was a fireman at the time. The other one was outside Fulwell Fire Station where he was 'stationed.' They were collection boxes for the benevolent fund.
Re: More of the Same
i also remember the toy rat the firemen used to have on a bit string, on a friday night when the woman walked past the station they used to pull the string and watched as they all started to scream when the rat wizzed past their feet
