On the subject of Frederick St.Does anybody remember Forsters paper shop?I used to be a deliver papers when the shop was on the corner of Corbridge St.and Taylor St.The business then moved to Fredrick St. in the early 70's.I was a close friend of Fred,John forster's brother. They were a lovely family and I was wondering if anybody knows if John still lives in the area.I believe Fred moved to the Hexam area.

I remember both the shop and John Forster. He used to be in the choir at St Mary's church. There was an old photo in the Gazette a couple of weeks back that he was on. It was Janis Blower's page and showed the Bishop of New Guinea visiting the church.

I used to deliver papers for Johnny Foster when the other lads wanted a break. He was a good payer compared to the job I had at the paper shop in South Frederick Street; 25 shillings a week compared to 16 shillings a week. That was in 1963/64 the Sunday papers were a killer, two full bags and you couldn't ride your bike until one of them had been emptied.

Thursday was also a nightmare when the tv and womens' mags were out

I was relieved that only one customer on the Sunday had a Sunday Times with it's extra bits and magazine; especially as they lived at the top of Reed Street.
