westoe cut...

Post by bamboo »

... the one from the side of the westoe pub into the village, when i was a kid, there was a rumour going around that it was haunted by a couple of romen soldiers,
was it just a tale from my era[the 70`s]or has it been doing the rounds for years?

It was only during your era boo, and the ghosts were only
ever seen after closing time.

The beer that the Westoe sells has a lot to answer for. :D

I've never saw any Romen soldiers, but I've seen a couple of Roman soldiers on a few occasions. I didn't know they were ghosts.

Tell you what Baldy, I reckon I'll be giving that cut a "wide birth" in the future. I saw a couple of "Vikings" walking through there the other week.

I saw a couple of Nuns walking through there many many years ago.
Scared the living daylights out of me.
I was rather surprised that they were wearing high heel shoes, and
both had moustaches. Couldn't have been boo and sless, because
it was before their time. :?

The cut was originally part of the pack horse route from shields to Harton, Cledon and to Sunderland from about the 1500s.

Couldn't have been a real ghost.
