Just wanted to add ...Fantastic photos Brian....Marine Park is still a pretty place..is that the Fair Ground way in the distance?..
I've been studying these photos and can almost see myself walking to the shops to get my half'penny chews..

Can you tell me if the Woodbine Pub is still there, that was where all my (older) family members drank..also what was the name of the Catholic church up from the town hall and the nearby Catholic School?...I went to that school for a very short time but mum took me out and put me in Ocean Road...and because the nuns were mean I went into the church and lit all the candles
I was 6yrs old.

see I told you I'd have a load of questions :D

That's the one!
I only lasted to the end of infants I think or the beginning of 1st class
I was taken out because the Nuns used to whip me with the stick end of the feather duster for not being able to recite the catacism.."Hail Mary Full of Grace" that's all I knew..and the last straw was when I wasn't allowed to go to the toilet in class time and wet my pants.. got belted for that, so I took off home...mum marched me back and gave the nun a piece of her mind and that was that , =D> went to Ocean Road after that...school dinners were nice though! :D

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.
Amen.

When I worked at the Co-op Emporium on Westoe Road, we used to go up onto
the roof now and again. From the Co-op roof we could look down onto the flat
roof playground of St Bedes.

Is that the St Bedes that was near the Derby St baths and it was run by nuns? I went there for about a year even though I wasnt a Catholic, I remeber though the playground on the roof and the statues of the Virgin Mary in the hall ways, and the Nuns rapping your knuckles with a ruler :(
