Barney,
thanks for the reply - mixed feelings for you, but glad its not the Garters I knew and hey Anna - you know everyone you do!

Thought I saw Paul Garthwaite a couple of years ago in a chippy off Bede Burn Road Jarrow, but by the time I recognised him he had been served and vanished - good footballer in his time.

I was at the match today - we lost as usual - but this old guy who sits next to me has been fighting cancer for the last couple of months and he took bad just before half time and you know what, I don't care if we get relegated or the club goes into liquidation - lifes more important than anything! I don't think I will ever see the poor chap again.

Well, Stupid o-Clock again, tea and crumpets thats me sorted, anna, ya right, it's crap when ya lose someone close init, nowt anyone says makes it any better, ah well it makes ya realise that were not here for ever, so i just get stuck in and do the things i want to do, i am spoilt, i've got a good life and i live it big time, don't care if it wears me down sometimes i've known loads of people who would swap places with me, it's not all about money, as long as your happy doing ya own thing, i value my time more than anything, it's finding a good balance, i'm lucky enough to get paid for doing what i love doing, playing music, it's a good thing when ya can come out of a pub or club with more money than ya went in with  got a hectic week next week what with DJ,ing giging and jam nights, but someone has to do it and it might as well be me, i'm lucky i only need 4 hours sleep, have done for the last 25 years or so, i might crash land one day, who knows, anyway, it's good crack on here and it's nice chatting away to people, i know a few people on here anyways, why don't people put pictures of themselves up so we can see who were talking to, or is it just me ha ha,

now then Martymont, i knew Colin very well , and Micky, he had a brilliant collection of dub records, me and colin went ta stay with him for a bit in Southend, we 'd just hit the clubs and go daft, like ya do when ya away from home, My Dad still lives in Nevinson with wor kid, he's working away at the moment, hes comming down ta see me when he can, he's been here before with me dad, i said to him "Are ya staying at mine or have ya booked in somwhere" and he said "Wa just Gana wing it and drink wa way Doon" my dads 86  when they came down wa had ta put my father on halfs  he went balistic, he said "I taught ya all how ta drink" and he kept swapping it for wor kids pint when wa went for a fag  he left the pub were i was working at half past two in the morning, brilliant man,

Now, The "Fad" that was our watering hole in them days, couldn't get away with the "Duster" (Unless we got bared out of the Fad) Me, Kev, Billy, Grampi, Andy Roach, Bri King, Steady, The Sulivans, Jeff Elliot, Bumper, Deka (Hiya Deka) and their John, Haley, Colin Mac, Muffa, Bri and Steve Ford, and the lasses as well, Do you remember when old McDonald had the Fad, they wouldnt serve us with Broon Ale in the lounge cos we used to kick off all the time  ya couldn't get moved in there on new years eve, ya had to wait outside at 6 o-clock if ya wanted a seat, then we would all get ratted and pile into the church next door, (Only cos it was warm) and then spend the rest of the night lookin for a party in someones house  we would just knock on the door and just say "Billy said wa could come" and they would let us in, ( we'd just stick 4 cans of Kaliber on the table and drink all their spirits, get even more lashed and then dish off and find another house ta raid) we used to end up at Micky Harvey's house, till we got chucked out  Happy days eh, I think half the lads in Whiteleas got slapped off their fathers for hanging around with us, ( i'll be honest, i was a bit of a tearaway then) i saw Micky Sullivans dad Batter him cos he saw him talking to me one time, and Mickys dad was a big man, i'm wafflin on a bit now  got a night off so i'm just chillin oot ! i'm gona write a book about them days, it's alright lads ill change the names to protect ya reputations  Thats me done for now !

Have had some interesting conversations with old timers in pubs, one was a retired toolmaker from Reyrolls, got talking to him one night in the Cavalier Club in Jarrow and we started talking about WW2. I think it was about the time of the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and he told me he had flown spitfires in the last couple of years of the war and had shot down 4 German aircraft. He had volunteered for the RAF and had been sent to Canada to learn to fly.
Another one I remember was a bloke called Geordie Henson from the Lake Pub, again was sitting having a conversation and he mentioned that he was one of General Wingates Chindits in the Burmese jungle.I asked him if he had killed many japs. He told me that they once captured two and his officer told him to take them back 7 miles through enemy lines to their headquarters for interrogation, he said he took them two hundred yards away and cut their throats, he told his officer that they had tried to escape.

Hiya Pete, ya right about the crack with the old un's, theres a group of old blokes used to get in the pub i used to play in, and every one of them was a war hero, one used to fly Mosquitos and he has the D.F.C. and bar, one was on the D-Day landings, another was a sargent in the Paras, they were great old guys to talk to as well, and it was well worth a few pints to hear their storys,

Anna, ya might be right about us being the new old folks  i don't care what number people stick on me, i'm not gona change the way i am, and why should we, but a lot of young kids think that we have done nowt while wev'e been here, i'm sure a lot of people on this site could tell a tale or two eh ?

Hi Dave, glad your onboard,

I've really enjoyed reading some of your exploits, sounds like you've been there and done that , and very much tried to make the best of what you've got
no matter where you are. I'm very pleased for yer and hope you can keep up with the crazy hours and the night life. I take me hat off to yer mate.

A big night out these days leaves me cream crackered the next day and I'm pretty much useless to anyone.

How long have you been gigging or jammin around the pubs ? I think it's marvellous that you're doing something that you enjoy so much.

Did you ever meet a bunch of lads called The Amazing Squibs, they used to play each weekend at The Neptune on Commercial Road, late 80's ?

I've got so many great memories of seeing live music around the town and of course, the bigger acts at Sunderland Loccarno, N/cle City Hall etc.
