What I particularly liked about this map was the large number of 'little' places which hardly get a mention these days such as Middleton St George,
Cotherstone, Brampton in Cumbria and some of the lovely little places in Northumberland (England's best kept secret).

You don't hear of them these days because their branch lines were closed down during and since the "Beeching" days.

I can remember going over that footbridge, many times.
That brings back a few memories.

well done brian, i didn't think i would see it again, its facinating to see all the old lines there were, one that always interests me is the waskeley line that went from rowley to stanhope which was reputed to be the highest line in the uk.

Can anyone remember the red stamping machine on the station platform, you could stamp your name on a thin aluminion strip.

Last year I took my Malaysian missus to York and we really enjoyed our time there. In fact, the railway museum was far better thsn we expected.

If you get a chance to go there, I highly recommend it with so many interesting things to see, even if like me, you did not have a big interest in railways.
