So it was. I always remember this one with Last train to San Fernando by Johnny Duncan, they came out round about the same time.

Thanks brian c. I remember the name "Rock Island Line". But who sang it I thought it was Lonnie Donegan? I think the same singer also sung the song called the "Auctioneer" as well.

Tommy Steele

Post by Globalmyths »

Your Tommy Steele was a popular singer in New Zealand. The last I heard of him he was doing Pantomines, and I am sure he was singing in the stage production of Oliver Twist which I think was also filmed.

Tommy Steele did not film Oliver Twist. I think his biggest film/stage performances were "Half A Sixpence".
He is 70 years old now and I don't think he has done anything since 1980 when his one man show ended.

like a lot of things sometimes your appreciated more when your gone, this seems the case with Lonnie Donegan, he was really a great artist who brought skiffle into a popular form, his lastest album, the skiffle sessions, was a collaboration with chris barber and van morrison, his last tour was just before he diesd in 2002.

Maybe it was the pantomine version of Oliver Twist that I had seen all those years ago. And then again I might have seen half a sixpence.
