Thanks for that Babooshka, I normally get that view of the Scotia at closing time, flat out on the pavement.

Apparently the Scotia is haunted by the ghost of Tommy the cellerman who died in the 1970's.

My brother used to tell me a story about Billy Meths and the Scotia. In the 60s, my brother drank in there (Sill does occasionaly). The pub had frosted glass and of a cold evening, Billy Meths would stand against the wall next to a window, through which could be seen the shape of peoples drinks sitting on the ledge inside. He would reach for the drinks and pretend to drink from the imaginary glass. Put it down and lick his lips, as though he had just had a nice swig of beer. Poor bug*er.

 That's really sad, addiction like that is such a horrible destructive thing, and to think he also used to sleep in the Wouldhave memorial boat.
My x's dad is an alcoholic and it's terrible to watch someone destroy themselves like that, must be worse if it's your own flesh and blood

I remember that! I used to feel drunk before I even got to the bar! I couldnt stand at the bar and drink, as I kept thinking I had one leg longer than the other.

when i worked in the docks [brighams]every night we used to drink in the -berisford arms- and we passed the scotia and a friend of ours was all ways on the railings and said good evening.
that friend was called JACK ADAMS he was killed at brighams
but for years afterwards we looked out for him.
