Anyone know a recipe for a South Shields Kebab/Chip Shop Chilli Sauce?

Post by southshields-expat » Fri Mar 16, 2018 2:11 am

Hello all!

I know this is an unusual request but wondering if maybe anyone know a recipe for a South Shields Kebab Shop or chippy Chilli Sauce? Maybe someone here has worked in a Chippy/Kebab Shop in Shields or around the area or knows someone who did or does and can find out a Kebab Chilli Sauce recipe for me? Just the area I live in now they make Kebab chilli sauce with Ketchup watered down and add powdered chilli sauce which is totally awful and nothing like back in Tyneside/Shields. Just really hoping to find a recipe so next time I buy a Kebab where I now live I can simply make my own chilli sauce in the house.

Hope someone can help?

Thanks, I actually have seen this one already but its not the same Chilli Sauce Kebab shops in Shields use. Kebab shops in Shields dont use Kethcup, mint sauce etc...

I make my own chilli sauce but i dont really measure my ingredients...i just slice half a medium white cabbage, a handfull of jalapenos,a teaspoon of chilli powder(i tend to put more in like) a tin of tomatoes (or you could use a carton of pasata) some tomato puree (about two tablespoons) salt to taste....just whack everything in a food processor and blitz until you get it to the right consistansy that you require....you can tinker about with the ingredients till you get the taste tou want.....hope you enjoy

Thanks, thats pretty similar to the link. I know the Kebab shops/Chippys in SHields use Passata as a base for sure. I dont know the rest of the recipe. So if anyone maybe has a friend who works in a Kebab shop or knows someone who use to and can find out the exact recipe that would be great :)

Thanks Champion!! I tried your recipe is pretty good! I would still love to find out a recipe used by a local SHields Chippy or Kebab shop if anyone finds out? Maybe some knows someone who works in one? or next time someone goes for a kebab have a cheeky question "How do you make our chilli sauce by the way?" (I would if I wasn't in another country now :( )
