Re: Merry Christmas
Sorry but the mid winter festival or yuletide predates Christianity, PC has nothing to do with it.

Re: Merry Christmas
That may be so, but these days it is about Christmas. the date was specifically chosen to wipe out the pagan worshipping.
It's not much use calling it a mid winter festival when all those pagans have been dead and gone a couple of thousand years.

Re: Merry Christmas
I love Xmas time, young children so excited about Santa coming, older ones pretending to believe just to make sure they get lots of gifts,
eat, drink and be merry, love it all, but I cant pretend to believe in a religion for one day of the year, I honestly just cant believe how in the 21st century people actually keep up the pretence of the God myth, I do respect the right of Christians of whatever branch of that religion to have their faith, I would think Christians should allow me to hold my beliefs and enjoy my mid winter festival of fun, food, drink and materialism. Are Pagans all long dead I'm no so sure. Oh dear the rain God has just arrived here in Shields and I was looking forward to a walk.

So what makes your mid winter festival any different to the Christmas festival?
You wouldn't be celebrating anything if not for the basis of the christian christmas festival.

Re: Merry Christmas
So does mid any season. So does xmas.
Winter is a made up name for a time of year is it not?
But what would you be celebrating if there was no such thing as Xmas season?
You just seem to be tacking yourself to the festivities that surround xmas/new year celebrations ..No?

Re: Merry Christmas
I thought Xmas was to celebrate the birth of Christ, the date of which is disputed, if such a person existed in the first place, many factions of Christianity think the date is around the 6th or 7th January, but it was convenient to take over the celebration of mid winter. What Santa and Lapland have to do with the birth of a Jew in the middle east has always baffled me but its fun. As far as winter being a made up name, all words are made up so i'm not sure where that fits in, mid winter in the northern hemisphere is the moment in time that the sun reaches it most southerly declination and starts to come north, in apparent motion of course, it differs slightly in its exact time usually around the 21st, 22nd December. This year it was 1628hrs GMT 21st December.

Re: Merry Christmas
Listen up, you're apparently all well behind the times. Good grief, still talking about Christmas. Haven't you lot even noticed-the hot cross bun displays have hit the supermarkets already.
Yes, folks, we're officially in the lead up to Easter.
