Caught by the camera again

Post by jeff » Mon Aug 14, 2017 9:44 am

This is not my lucky year for traffic "offences". As you may recall I was clobbered by the Victoria police for a speeding offence, and had a "severe talking to" by the NSW Police (going too slow!) earlier in the year.
This morning another nice letter, this time for parking too long in the local hospital setting down and picking up area.
We have a 94 year old friend ( who has no close relations) and who was taken in with a TIA; she was allowed home after a couple of daysand so we arrnaged to pick her up. At 94 she is not very mobile so we parked in the official picking up area outside the main hospital entrance doors. She was in a ground floor ward, but by the time we had got her a wheelchair and back to the car our time limit was 10 minutes over (you are only allowed 20 minutes). So a nice letter this morning from Parking Eye with a parking charge for £80 - 130AUD for our friends down under -(discounted to £40 if paid within 14 days).
What price a helping hand?

Shocking. I understand there have to be time limits but it does get difficult when someone isn't mobile.
If I were you, I would write in to the hospital and ask if they could exempt you for the fine and explain the circumstances. Give the neighbour's name.
They can only say no.

If you need to do it again, does your neighbour have a disability sticker you display in your car and perhaps get a disabled spot?

nice to see you are looking after an elderly person though

perhaps a letter to the local media would sort out the matter and exempt you

Sherri, the Hospital has "outsourced" its car park management to this outfit "Parking Eye" and from other comments in the local press they are unlikely to waive any appeal.
Our friend does not have a "Blue Badge" Disability sticker but in any case I don't think that they are valid in this situation. This is private land not a public space and they make up their own rules. There are spaces marked for disabled parking i.e with wider bays, but you still have to pay. :?

Andy I have no intention of not paying, but as you suggest make as much noise as I can in the relevant places i.e the local rag.

Just noticed this on the form:

Parking Eye will only accept and respond to appeals in English

Jeff, it sometimes seems as if life just can't wait to give you a kick in the teeth. It seems so much worse when you acting for the good of someone such as that. :(
