What do you back load into an Oil tanker?

We had tank washing gear the residue being pumped to settling tanks ashore where the oil was separated from the water, then tank inspectors would come onboard to certify your tanks clean for back loading, in those days when deep sea between ports the residue from tank cleaning was pumped straight into the ocean but that has been banned for many years. Also tankers are built in such a way with ring main circuits that different tanks can be isolated to enable a ship to carry more than one grade at a time. I dont know if anyone can remember in the 60s early 70s VLCC (VERY LARGE CRUDE CARRIERS) blowing up at sea while empty some being lost, this was later found to be caused by tank washing, the cargo tanks were so large the high pressure spray used to tank clean was causing a weather system to build up in the tanks a cloud of charged particles causing a lightening type flash in the tank and boom. This was later cured by pumping inert gas into the tank during tank washing.

It's the 10th here. I am not sure if it was exactly on this day, but I am pretty sure this is around Global's birthday.
