Good to see you back, delilahcat.
I hope you will stick around, even if it is quiet.
pilot, I was getting what you had (I think). Little unwanted ads that would pop up in the right hand corner.
I wasn't sure what program was causing it, but googled some name I could see on them, which took me to a link where someone identified what program was actually running it (which was not the same name I had seen on the ad) and then gave step by step directions on how to delete it from my computer.

Junior has just bought some big swanky super computer thingy ,after putting it together ,he was getting a blue screen problem while playing vids[something to do with processor speed setting and graphic cards],after calling the company that built it,they sent him an email explaining how to rectify the problem ,which he done, however, they suggested if he wasn’t confident trying the fix himself ,they would carry out the repair remotely from their office in Manchester if he wish
Crackers or what…
Ask me,and an Apple a day is the only way to keep the virus away !

I think that is fairly common, JJ.J Jackson wrote:Junior has just bought some big swanky super computer thingy ,after putting it together ,he was getting a blue screen problem while playing vids[something to do with processor speed setting and graphic cards],after calling the company that built it,they sent him an email explaining how to rectify the problem ,which he done, however, they suggested if he wasn’t confident trying the fix himself ,they would carry out the repair remotely from their office in Manchester if he wishCrackers or what…

Our computers are always fixed remotely.
There's also a program you can get called Remotely possible and I think that has been around for over a decade or so.
Actually, when I first started on the internet back in about 1996, I can remember going on a chat site and I wasn't sure how to do just about anything on a computer. Lots of things weren't showing properly on my screen, so the moderator there said he would fix it and told me to click this, click that etc and I followed directions and next thing I knew, the screen was being fixed up remotely and things were moving without me having to lift a finger. Boy, you wouldn't hand over your computer that easily these days, but back then just about everyone seemed genuinely helpful.
Teachers here lease laptops and any problems, we ring a number and the technician takes over in the same way and fixes things remotely.
Pilot, glad if anything I said helped you get rid of those annoying pop up ads. Horrid, aren't they!!
Mine have not re-appeared, so fingers crossed yours are gone for good too.
Re: I'm back
Touch wood, its been gone for 24 hours now ! It was worse than annoying, I'd be halfway into a post when the ad took over the screen and all i could do was log out, I gave up posting in the end except on my i pad.

There is a scam going on in which you get a telephone call from what they say is the Windows help desk saying they will do a scan and repair remotely on line, guess what happens.

Never had a problem with any of my Apple pewters, probably why I didn’t know..They always run perfectly and don’t need any virus software protection which is a bonus.sherri wrote: I think that is fairly common, JJ.

Re: I'm back
My computer is well and truly past it so I have a spiffy Apple I pad. Good to be back and that Global is still on the scene. Will try and get on more?

IPads are OK Deli but not as good as a desktop or laptop

I have an Ipad, which I find very good for all kinds of things, but when there's lots of typing to be done, I still prefer my desk or laptop computers.

Re: I'm back
My computer has died and has to be replaced. I have a work computer which can't be used for social networking so the I pad is a stop gap until I decide what to do. I have been pretty busy lately but a friend has invited me to look at her new computer and see if I want to get a similar model. I am taking my granddaughters on holiday so will need to watch my spending.
Re: I'm back
I use my iPad mini for mucking about but use my laptops for picture editing, to be honest I prefer my laptops . (Having said that I'm typing this on my i-phone).
Welcome back Delilacat.....
