Latest bush trip

Post by freon »

Just got back from Cobourg Peninsular which is the Northern most part of
the Northern Territory mainland thought our pommy mates may be interested in some pics
Not many White Australians get to visit this part of the country as you need to cross Aboriginal land
you need permits and the trip must be booked because the restrict access we were the only ones there

Crossing from the Territory into Arnhem Land

Just a reminder this is Toyota country this Mitsubishi didn't make it
Image

Its about 300ks from the crossing to where we are heading over some real rough roads
but when you get there the scenery is tops

low tide

Image

The girls getting my lunch oysters natural she must have thought I needed them

Some of the best sun sets

Image

The crocs cross the main track from the ocean to the swamp we could see there tracks in the sand They are smart they can read signs

Image

And now the trip home and the tide was coming in at the crossing and it was full of crocs waiting for us to get washed off the crossing

Image

taken from my window as we crossed

cheers

Interesting photos, Freon.
It isn't the sort of place where you would want to have a break down or be stranded.

Top shots Freon

crocs hanging about the crossing like that .... must have had previous menu experience there

or what would be the attraction?

Barra going over or funnelled under the crossing?

Gnads the coast is about 40 ks from there and it was about an 8 metre tide

so the fish were going over the top of the crossing to be met by a feeding frenzy

Cars are often washed off when all the tidal water starts to move out again

  Apart from the fact he has been dead a while, I don't think Mitchell ever made it up to Arnhem land. If he had, he would have been off course.

I was referring to a Cockatoo Sherri - The Major Mitchell cockatoo which no doubt was named after the Major you was thinking of.

Well, there's the cockatoo but there is also a little mouse like creature named after him, so you needed to be specific.

 That's the beauty of being famous, I guess, Global.
Famous people get to have a whole lot of things named after them. :D
