A then and now theme is a very good idea Ralph. Because when they have it I can send photos of my legs, before and now, especially now as they have more scabs on them since last time. They will be sure to go under the Must see category.
How was a totally inorganic world able to create organic life? Answer it couldn't and didn't

Great first effort Sless!
Re: October photo competition.
Lovely photo Sless, and babies make such wonderful subjects, they just have to look at you and love them at once.

Re: October photo competition.
Great shot sless, you're a natural, love the expression on the little fellas face.

I love these Ralph - How her eyes stay the same over the 34 years between. A very smart lady I think.ralph wrote:I decided to put these two photographs on this thread, not because I think they are of winning quality, but simply because of the portrait theme. The first one I took way back in 1977 with my canon AE1 and I suppose was my first serious attempt at a portrait. Mam would have been 58 then.
The second photo was taken about a year ago, using the same camera, when Mam was 91. I suppose thinking about it, perhaps they would more appropriately have been posted on the 'then and now thread.![]()
I'd love to see a photo of her in the 1950's as another comparison.
Well done you =D> =D> =D>
Re: October photo competition.
Well Stottie as you have asked, I am going to take the liberty of posting such a photo, taken in the early 1950's, sadly rather faded and showing its age. This has nothing to do with the October competition, and I must ask Curley to forgive me if this is an abuse of the thread. Re: October photo competition.
I can't see it would be an abuse of the thread as they are all portraits and very interesting of the same person over time.
How wonderful for you to still have your mother with you, at 91.
I hope there's a portrait at 101 one day, too.

Thank you Sherri, and yes, how lucky I am. She has been a wonderful mother and so I am indeed blessed. Mam's own mother died when she was only 43!sherri wrote:I can't see it would be an abuse of the thread as they are all portraits and very interesting of the same person over time.

Re: October photo competition.
Probably my last contribution to the thread this month, taken with my Casio 5 mega-pixel compact at the Garter Ceremony at Windsor Castle in 2009. It has been cropped, then I have dimmed out the background using my newly acquired Elements 10, that I am still trying to get to grips with
Undoubtedly, from some of the things said about the Monarchy on the site, I'm putting myself up for some brick-bats to be thrown at me, but hey - so what!
It was a smashing day and a great photo opportunity!

That's a real cracker Ralph, great detail and the depth of field is great makes HM stand
out from the background.

Re: October photo competition.
Thanks Mr Smith, I was about 7 feet away from the Queen when she passed, and was also able to get photos of the other Garter Knights, Heralds etc - all very colourful - if only I had owned my present camera then.Mr Smith wrote:That's a real cracker Ralph, great detail and the depth of field is great makes HM stand

When I took the photo, I hadn't noticed, but a work colleague also on her day off, was on the other side of the path, with her mother, and they came out crystal clear near the Queen. The old mother was thrilled to bits when I gave her a 10 X 8 print to remind her of the event.
