I never ever went anywhere for a holiday when I was a kid.
first time away from Shields was a day trip with the Sally Army
to Saltwell Park. when I was 14 years old. Next time I went
anywhere was to Durham City for the day with my school
class, on an educational trip. Later on when still 15 I went
on another day trip to Trimdon Dean.
I never had a proper holiday until I was 19 years old, when
I cycled around England.
Making up for it now though. :D

Never saw an egg until I was about twelve, we used to buy tins of egg powder, and that's the truth.

we couldn't afford to heat the water to make steam.

Our central heating was a candle in the middle of the room, but we couldn't afford a match to light it.

If they are anything like our local CIU club the commitee manage to get rotten drunk every night
and they are all on the dole. That's one of the reasons I stopped going, I caught them several times
short changing the bingo players, I pulled them up publicly each time and they eventually stopped
doing it. They probable clapped their hands when I packed it in.

I loved Butlins! Went to Bognor Regis camp though. We would eat 3 times a day ( soup, dinner AND pudding) and go swimming (plate glass viewing panels for viewing in the "Regency Ballroom" if they cared to watch), canoeing, fairground, rollerskating. More to do than I would expect from Whiteleas where I was born.

I still had a spoon with "Butlins" engraved on it, until just before Christmas last year (dont tell anyone will you).

Didn't have Butlins in New Zealand. So I just used to go catching eels.
