bit of a shock eh, he was a bit of stirrer on here, so much that many didn't like him, but i guess none of us really wish harm to others, whether we say we do or not..

He was always good for a lively discussion, he'll be missed.
His health has been up and down over the last few months. I think he said he had had a minor stroke last year and then was hospitalised recently with lung problems made worse from gunshot wounds he had received in the Vietnam war. He wasn't that old either. Very sad.
RIP DaddyO.

Sad news that Jim (Daddy O) has passed away at the fairly young age of 70.

Condolences to his wife Carol.

If anyone is in touch with Mr Angry could you please advise him.

If someone wants to organise some flowers again (Sherri or Danet?), we could all chip in as a mark of respect irrespective of previous differences.

RIP Daddy O

I was thinking just yesterday of global & how people who had not been on in years came back over about a 2 week period to make donations.
It's sad that several members here have passed away.
I don't know where daddyo lived exactly or what the funeral arrangements are or even if it could be organised in time. Danet may know more.
But one option might be what we did for pete and that was that people who wished to could make a donation to this board, because no matter what he said, daddyo did enjoy being on his message boards.
Just an idea.

respect, that's what it comes down to, he didn't respect me, and i didn't respect him as his character or what ever it was on here, people will think the same of me no doubt, and i don't care what people may think of me, but a life is gone from us, daddyo wasn't an evil person like we see all over the world, i thought he disrespected others due to certain claims, but right or wrong that stuff is not important anymore, i give disrespect where it's due, and i give respect when it is due, respect is due now.

when kass went, i couldn't believe how hard that hit, same with butch and global, though global was a pain in the arse, sometimes the real perspective of these internet lives aren't realised until someone is gone, mountains out of molehills type of stuff, but having said that, if you buggers want an arguement, you'll get one :)

all that any of us can do is hope for today, years are optimistic, we can be taken at anytime from unnatural causes such as accidents..

but sometimes illnesses are quick, i knew a guy who died 17 days after showing symptoms caused by lung cancer, sometimes things are aggressive and quick..

me, i'm almost 60, gotta laugh at a mate of mine eh, when i was 36 he and his missus wanted to take out insurance on me cos they thought for sure i'd be dead from alcohol at 50..

but now i wonder if i'll make it to seventy, it sure feels like i won't, but what the hell, i'll worry about that tomorrow :)

I appreciate all the condolences for Jim, it saddened me to hear the news, and I will pass it onto Carol via email, although his wife emailed me through Jim's own email, she just let everyone on his email list know, I have written back, but it may be some time before Carol replies, as I imagine there is much to do.
In time, when I do hear from her, I will let you all know.
Thank you for thinking of me for any flowers to send etc. I don't know his address, as I wasn't going to ask until we went back to the USA, and then we would have been more in communication about all the finer details for my hubby and I to meet up with him and his family.
As they say, it's the thought that counts, and I feel the words conveyed just in this thread is lovely.

In a way, as DaddyO loved forums and political discussions, I have known him for many years from a big American forum way back then. I had invited him to a quieter yet interesting and diverse board as the South Shields Sanddancers Forum.
As a tribute to DaddyO as a poster on this forum, and his new found friendships he enjoyed over the last few years, I will donate to this forum $10 AU

The suggestion about putting in a donation, for the upkeep of this forum, I think is a lovely idea. And much respect in that.
I haven't been on forums much, but I am never too far away, and always keep an eye on everyone behaving
Thinking of you all. Regards Danet.

I/we will hold a wake for the passing of DaddyO.

I/we shall have a bit of Texan/country music and jig in his honour for sure.

i say we as that is because many folk here abouts loved his input onto the board.

A few folk here abouts have relatives living in the USA.

i spy eh ? :)

money for the board ?

daddyo always said the board was going down hill, but then he'd donate to the board and let us all know about it..

maybe that old texan bug*er was having a laugh rather than being a loudmouth, i don't know..

but he was definitely a loudmouth, maybe we just didn't get his brand of humour..

money for the board, or perhaps he might have a favourite charity ?

Thought it had become way too quiet

I'll be in a flower or more so an appropriate card dispatch to his wife.

Flowers are soon thrown out.

RIP DaddyO

Daddy O and I didn't see eye to eye on some subjects and yet I was always pleased to see him return after one of his absences due to a 'huff' or having been sent to the 'naughty step'. I will miss him. If there does happen to be anything after we kick the bucket, perhaps he will be up there chatting to Global and Jarrow Pete. RIP to all three.

I think a card sounds nice, sent on behalf of everyone. We'll have to see if we can find out the address.

Sherri I know a card may sound "cheap charlie" but it's something that can be held in keeping
as a personal memorial.

Though on reflection I suppose with a decent card some flowers for his wife might also be nice.

Albeit she will most probably have a plethora of those. I'm easy.

Cheers

I agree with you gnads.

As it turns out, I have his address. I had forgotten.
He never told me his addy & I never asked but he did tell me in February that he was nominating for his local elections. I suppose we would call them council elections, forget what they are called there. He sent me a PDF of his nomination/election promises type thing & it had his private address on it, which I remember telling him I didn't think was a good thing for any aspiring politician to include.
I had forgotten all about seeing that PDF but it is still in my emails.

I was thinking, what if I get a nice card and if anyone has a sentence or two they would like included, just write it for me in a post here or message me & what I will do is cut & paste, print out a sheet and include it with the card on behalf of us all.
I think that would make it personal, something a bit meaningful.

R.I.P. Daddyo. You will be missed, you ol' bug*er. I always enjoyed your tirades, although I haven't been on as much recently. You certainly knew how to liven things up, and the boards will be much quieter now. :(
