A little tour of Hamilton Island

Post by sherri » Fri May 19, 2017 11:51 pm

I thought some of you might like to see a bit of Hamilton Island.
It's a little island that is part of the Whitsundays, up in Queensland, so a more northerly part of Australia than where I live. There are no cars on the island, most of the island is covered in bushland. The Whitsundays are a very scenic part of Australia, absolutely beautiful to sail through.
About a month or so ago, the island was hit by a cyclone and suffered some damage. My daughter & her husband have just spent the last week up there, celebrating their 4th wedding anniversary. It doesn't seem that long ago but then again, they now have two children. :D

So here are some of their photos. :D

Views from their room.

Close up, you can see some damage to palms from the recent cyclone.

Image

To get around, they have a lot of these buggies.

Image

The weather is usually warm there. You can swim in the resort pool.

Image

or wander down to the beach.

Plenty of good things to eat. :D

Image

You can have a round of mini golf.

Image

Or just view the wildlife.

Of course it does get tiring.

But there's always the chance to relax and kick your shoes off! :D

Thanks for sharing. Looks a nice peaceful place . Lovely piccies. I bet the kids enjoyed it and have some fond memeories of it. I find it astonishing sometimes how much our boys (now 38,42 and 44) remember of our family holidays when they were quite young.
Gardening requires lots of water.....most of it in the form of perspiration.

I'm not sure how much the older one will remember as she just celebrated her third birthday, so maybe just a tad young. But it was her first experience on a plane so I am sure she will remember that for a little while. My daughter said the flight there was the extreme limit of what she could put up with, with two young kids. :D
They are on their way home, have landed but now but stuck in traffic. The airport is a long drive from where they live.

Look like a nice place. Nice beach.

Myself, I am going to the South of France on the 27th May for a few days.

Don't do beach there, i do nothing but chill out and enjoy fine food & wine.

It should be lovely there whip. Your weather must be starting to warm up by now.
I know it is a lot cooler in Victoria. No swimming here at the moment unless you're very hardy!

I do visit there a lot as it's a million miles away from Manchester and districts grime.

Hope for nice weather but will take what-ever is going :)

My French is going strong now so shall try a new approach on some things.

re: Hamilton Island ... nice place ..... nice photos Sherri

but the same can not be said of management there

they treated guests who were trapped there during Cyclone Debbie very ordinarily ... in fact they were straight out mercenary.
Nappies & Politicians should be changed often. Both for the same reason.

Yes, we read about that, gnads. Disgusting.
And won't have won them any brownie points.
My daughter was really worried about going there, but they were already booked in.

They may have had some damage to some of the bungalows, I am not sure. My daughter & family were upgraded from a bungalow to the main hotel, to a room that was $60 a night extra.
Mind you, she said having 2 young kids in the same room was a pain as they had to be in the dark themselves by 8pm, lights off, TV off, or the kids would not sleep.
Then at the first crack of dawn, the kids were awake and raring to go.
