For those of you who remember the Jarrow Arches!

I heard that someone had been hanged right there at the Arches.........before my time for sure! I'm thinking it was around the early 1900's or late 1800's.........but may be wrong.
Good reason for people to be scared going through there on foot in the dark. It was spooky!!!!!!!!!!

Yes they were called Tyne Dock arches, at least in my day. My dad has got a piece of one of them in his garden.

Hi Y'All;

William Jopling was one of the last people to be gibbeted, and he was hung at the Jarrow/Simonside end of where the Tyne Dock arches would be built, if my history of the area is correct. He hung there for a while, until his body disappeared one night. This was circa 1830's, so a bit before my time!

Is this what you were thinking about?
