Pupil Numbers

Post by baldy.smith »

Was doing a bit of research and found this information on pupil numbers at Mortimer School in 1914.

Senior 600, Juniors 600, Infants 612. Total number 1,812 pupils

They must have been crammed in like sardines.

When I was there we had 400 seniors but I don't know how many there were in the other parts of the school.
Even at 400, the average size class was 40 pupils. So in 1914 they must have averaged at least 60 pupils per class; and that is assuming they had the same number of teachers, I would expect that they had fewer teachers in those days.

Was there 30 per class, six classes per year = 180 per year x 5= 900?
