Its a Knockout - 1970

Post by g0var » Thu Oct 19, 2006 12:49 pm

Would love to hear from anyone who was involved with the South Shields team, either with the local heat at Marine Park or the trip to Como (june 1970).

Especially if you have any photos.... the few I had ended up at the bottom of Limasol harbour (long story)

the como programme was recorded about the second/third week of June 1970 (tho cant remember when it was shown, could have been live in those days...), the local heat against North Shields was round about the Aug/Sept/October (I think) of '69...

I took some photos, but it might of been at Seaburn when they were there.

At least I think they were.

Got some distance pictures of Eddie Waring and some odd shots.

G0var welcome to boards.

I not being nasty.

Why you want photos of such drivel anyway ?? it was 36 years ago.

We had "Its a knockout." in Slovenia (Yugoslavia) .

We had such games as post the communal tractor through a letterbox reassemble it and harvest turnip crop in 3 minutes.

Pin the tale on the KGB agent.

and prettiest donkey competition.

These we all want to forget about.

Photographs were discouraged, not by the State but those taking part (compulsory)

Welcome to the boards.

I have a lot of happy memories of the training and run-up to the South Shields heat and very happy memories of the trip to Como.
Made a lot of new friends during that period, but having moved away from Shields in '71 I lost contact, then the dockers in Limasol managed to drop most of my personal posessions in harbour there in '75...
would be nice to see (at least some pictures ) of those friends again, as you say memor, it was 36 years ago, the memory fades....

(along with the hair, muscles, teeth................... )

I saw that the CHALLENGE channel had It's a Knockout on from 1981 this morning.

Might be worth keeping an eye on if it's going through the series, South Shields might pop up.

I was in the South Shields It's knockout team 1970. I was part of the team chosen at Trinity House Youth Club, I remember it well. I was in the Fireman Game, Four of us had a small trampoline on our shoulders and on the trampoline was a girl we had to collect a ball from a pole at one end of the course and score a basket at the other end, we won our game, givng vital points for Shields.
As you know we won the tournament and Beat Tynemouth, and travelled to Lake Como, but unfortunately lost.
I do have some photo's somewhere and will try to find them.

Hi

Just found this forum, whilst searching for information on the South Shields "It's a Knockout" from 1970. My Mum (Linda Farr) took part and was then invited to Lake Como as a spectator. I would love to see any photos or footage. Did anyone manage to find any?

Thanks

Sandra

Hi Sandra, I don't have many pics... The RAF lost mine in the harbour in Limasol...
Don't know if I can get them on here... but I am on facebook.
I was one of the ones who went over land in a minibus as reserves... we actually got a far better deal than the team...
We had a two week trip out of it through France, Germany and Switzerland... both ways 😊.. the team flew out a day or so before and flew back the day after..

Apologies g0var, only just seen your response (thought I would get an email notification if anyone responded but just seen that I have to opt in for that).

If you have any photos on Facebook of the team/group and you wouldn't mind adding me I would love to see them, to see if my Mum is amongst them.

I'm in the process of trying to get the film footage from the BBC as I would love to see it.

Thanks

Sandra
