It was the media which started the rumour. The police from the start said that they knew of nothing to link the two cases. The police have to investigate a suicide as a matter of course, at no point did they connect the two events. Today they said they were still pursuing their original enquiries and that the suicide had not diverted them from the original enquiry.I for one believe them.

I see the family of the man are blaming neighbours for jumping to conclusions and making his name public via the media. The police could have helped by making a quick statement to say that he was not involved. However in a case like this the police are going to check every little thing that crops up which may have a bearing on the case and we the public should expect nothing less.

I know they barely meet the comparison at times but the filth ARE human... They do make mistakes.

I have just got back from a flying visit to the UK and saw this story. It was a disgrace what that poor family were put through, just to pacify the press and public for a few days. The motive "Buying Time" springs to mind.

Also while there. There was a manhunt in the Ripon area for a "Serial Rapist" After 3 alledged rapes. Two of the raped women withdrew thier statements, which turned out to be false! The police have stopped the enquiry. What the hell is going on over there? There were documentaries about imaginary s*x offences the authorities had "imagined". Ive just put on century radio, and they are on about s*x offences. They seem to do nothing but dwell on this issue in the UK now. Even though there are probably less s*x offences now, than at anytime in history! Just better reporting. :?

Look, the police are doing their best to solve a terrible crime. As has already been said, the police did not confirm or deny anything. The media blew it all up out of proportion as usual because it makes good headlines (it did look a little suspicious though, don't you think?). If they denied any link before they had the facts they would be in the wrong. If they admitted that there was suspicion to link the two before they had the facts they would be in the wrong.

Because of backward thinking rumour-mongers, people have jumped to the wrong conclusion and instead of taking responsibility for their own wrong-doing people like to blame the police as usual. They've probably been nicked a few times themselves which is why they are too stupid to make an intellectual comment....if more people supported the police instead of criticising them all the time (a job which most people would not want to do, myself included) then they would be able to tackle crime more effectively without having to justify their work at every turn.

I agree.....to an extent para. The press are to blame. They can say what they want, against the ordinary man, knowing it is highly unlikely they will be sued. The press need to be taken to task. They would dare not even..Hint at any wrongdoing by a celebrity or wealthy person. They are happy to destroy someones life...or Memory, just to sell a few papers. I personaly rarely ever buy a newspaper. They are not even fit to wipe my arse on!

I agree the Press are responsible for all the ills in the world.

They try and make life more interesting, unfortunately they not care who they hurt.
