So Tyne Dock is under water AGAIN...

Post by Muzzychuck »

Am I the only one who doesn't think the rain today was bad enough to swamp the drains? Granted, when Tyne Dock has been flooded out in the past it's been because of torrential rain and flash floods, not moderate rain that (in my opinion) we saw today.
It just seems a bit odd, that's all. It quite surprised me.

Northumbrian Water really need to get their fingers out sharpish before those poor people develop webbed feet.

I to go to a new customer in East Boldon, so coming from Whitley through the tunnel, I thought.

"Oh I'll miss any possible traffic jams on the main route, I'll short cut through Tyne Dock"

BIG MISTAKE.

The name gives it away.

Tyne---smething made of water

Dock---something full of water

Northumbrian Water's reaction to the regular flooding at Tyne Dock is nothing short of scandalous. I've just received a letter from them detailing nothing in particular, very non-commital, they say that drain cleaning operations are ongoing (this operation has been ongoing for almost 12 months.) After they have cleaned out up to 1.5 Km of silt they then intend to pass a cctv camera along the route to look for problems, another year perhaps?
I asked them to confirm that the drain is only 4 inches in diameter but they skirted around that question. They really need to invest in a new drain of at least 18 inches diameter, they also failed to confirm that the same drain runs from the Nook passing Ullswater Gardens to reach Tyne Dock. They also failed to confirm that this drain was laid down just after the second World War when the area was mainly rural and not built up.

It would be a good idea for a decent hard hitting journalist to get to the bottom of this and really embarrass them into some form of positive proaction!

But if it's only 4 inches across, how's he going to get down?

Curly---most storm drains are at least 24" in dia

A 4" drain is of a size that is used to connect your house to the drains so would be totally inadequate to deal with a whole area.

That's right, It is reported to me that the drainage system installed in the 1940's is still in use now, (from Harton Nook down to Tyne Dock). Remember there were next to no houses on that route then.

I see in the news today that Northumbrian Water are to buid a huge, 11,000,000 litre storage tank under Brinkburn Rec. to cope with torrential rain and alleviate the flooding problem in the area.

We'll wait and see.

Send water down here.

All reservoirs are at an all time low.

I spoky too soon It been tiddling down here quite a bit.

Everything was going brown reservoirs at all time low.

This rain although welcome not help much.

We have man on local radio say it have to rain nearly every day all through winter for reservoirs to get back to full.

But we know men from water company big liar because they say we have no water.

But

When we have enquiry into having extra 10,000 house built here.

Water company says that they got enough water to cope.

So what is it ?

They not got the water to cope with current residents.

But will have the water for 10,000 plus more residents.

Someone telling big Porky Pies.

Been there, done that memor so I will tell you how they plan to do it. Firstly they will put water charges WAY up. They will charge a certain amount up to a low limit then a lot more per litre over that, then even more per litre in the next category etc.
Then they ban watering by sprinkler except during night hours. No washing of cars at all, ever, with normal hand held hoses.
Then the govt allows planners to cut the sizes of blocks of land so people don't have half as much garden anyway, and they allow people to build units in what was the backyard and so 'split' the block for profit. Of course this will put pressure on existing services-roads and pipes etc but hey, they figure that will be the next govt's problem!
They will introduce the topic of maybe recycling waste water and sewage as drinking water.
There will be a refusal to build any more dams though, and they will tell you if you question any of the above, you are just an environmental vandal.

We are in desperate need of some rain too... They reckon by 2007 i think they said it was not sure, we will be drinking purified black water, Ewwwww yuk, horrible thinking about it although its been purified its the thought of it..

Our dams are so low, its so dry, I remember years ago in the 80s when i came up for holidays with the parents to sunny queensy when we were very early teens, and i remember an afternoon shower everday..
It was lovely and refreshing..

But now, nothing... even the huge flood we had not long ago didnt go to all the right places either... We so need some rain...
