It's true though. The brain can decipher words, even if they are spelled incorrectly. And it's not just the case for English either. A friend sent me exactly the same thing in German.

I remember a big ad campaigne in Australa for "Speed Reading" courses. You were taught to read the pages of a book, almost as fast as you can turn them. I wonder if this phenomena is what they played on. It seems we can scan the pages of a book and miss out many of the words, as the are not needed and we can still understand the contents of the book.

My mate Colin knows all about speed reading, he's pretty good at it now. I have tried it but I noticed different styles of writing made it more difficult. For instance reading a stephen king novel was particularly difficult for me, i had to stop and read a few sentences over which kinda defies the whole point of it. But reading newaspaper articles and some factual stuff (without dates) was much easier to read at high speed.
Its a funny thing tho... u dont even read the words in ur head, u just glance the page pretty quickly and sur[rise yourself with how much u can recall when u get to the end of the page!! madness. It gets eaiser with practice too.

Today, I changed my signature.

Agree with you there, Random. If I am reading for pleasure, then I like to savour every word - but sometimes I have to read boring reports and that's when speed reading comes in very handy LOL. Mind you, I generally have to be careful not to miss anything important, so I normally end up going back and reading the darned things again anyway - properly. [/u][/list]
