Facebook

I decided to try Facebook to see what all the fuss is about.

Well I've been a member for a month and I find it the most trivial thing I have ever done (except join Twitter)

Its true I did re aquaint myself with a couple of friends I've lost touch with but.

My downfall was being mistaken for a Memor Maplin from a High School in California,"The class of 71"

I informed the lady that i wasn't he whom she was seeking but made the big mistake of asking if she'd like to be friend. I was always a sucker for a pretty face.
Well she agreed and what happened next well I'm now friends with all the class of 71, last count 75 and all of their friends 147 and so it goes on . By this time

next year I expect I'll be friends with most of North America. Thank heavens they let you know when its their Birthday. Not that they'll get a card from me.

I tried facebook and found it extremely childish and after about a week I left.

You know how I said that by this time next year I could be friends with all of North America... well.

I haven't been on Facebook for a couple of weeks. When I had a look today.

I found 172 people wanting to be my friend and they're all Americans.

There must be some good/free holidays out of this.

I'm setting up other facebook pages in Spanish , French, Italian and .....Japanese. I always wanted to go to Tokyo.

Bloody hell.

I've deleted all those yanks off my facebook.

What a bunch of anti social two faced bigoted morons. Talk about being insular.

I'm afraid this little episode has put a big dent in Anglo- American relations. No wonder half the world wants to do them harm.

What is thats said about California. "THE LARGEST OPEN AIR MENTAL ASYLUM IN THE WORLD."

Anyway I dont have to worry about stalkers. I told them my name was Jimmy Pilot Globalmyths Wizz.

 I can identify with that.
I too have a facebook account. I think you have to be a certain age or temperament to want to splash personal details or photos all over it. Mine is a bit blank but even so, I have shot up from 4 friends for the last 2 years, to a veritable explosion of 17 now. I even had one person ask to be friends and I haven't got a clue who she is. Most of those 17 are young relatives.
Maybe I should write something shocking on it and see how long it takes to spread through the rumour mills. :D

Or maybe no one would notice anyway.

Welcome Jordy Girl.
I'm glad you are using the special spelling of the word "Jordy"

I have now deactivated my Facebook account.

The death threats were getting me down.

Myrna (wife) says I should wait a few months reactivate Facebook and continue threatening to kill people when I feel better.

Myrna she's so sensible.

Through Facebook I managed to find an old friend the other day, I've been
trying to find out for years where he was. He emigrated from South Shields
to Canada about forty five years ago, after a few years residing in Canada he
moved to the USA, that is where I lost contact with him. He is now living in
California. I have contact with my family members in Canada, the USA, South
America, France, Italy, Eire and around the UK. By using "Skype" I can see and
talk to family members and friends all over the world. Modern IT is a wonderful
thing when used properly.

That's not true, you have six friends on there including one
Sanddancer board member, and your account is still active.
You have photos posted on there as well. :D

Wouldn't you only be able to find someone if they registered under their real name?
I am sure a lot of people don't, or else have a form of their name that maybe you wouldn't think of looking up.

The other factor is that unless you are already a friend, you won't be able to see any of their stuff, so even if you find a person with the name, it might be hard to know if they are the right person or not.

I have an account but no pictures and very few friends.
A bit like real life, I suppose.

I've just managed to track down another old friend who migrated
to Canada many years ago. I found him via Facebook although he
is not actually on Facebook, I found him indirectly through other
Facebook members. Turns out that he is now a World renowned
expert on growing Bonsai, has written many books on the subject.
It also turns out that he lives about 20 miles from my niece and her
family in Toronto Canada. The other friend in San Diego California
who I found a couple of weeks ago phoned me up on Friday night,
we talked for about 45 minutes about the good old days and the
times we spent together, it was great and I thoroughly enjoyed
our conversation. Long live IT.
