ME Granda used to play the cornet in Palmers brass band .They once played on the top of marsden rock.

Can remember my grandfather telling me about a temperance meeting that he went to on top of Marsden Rock in the early 1900s.I once climbed to the top myself in my younger days, not many managed to do it because the only way up was on the seaward side and it was only accessable at very low tides.

Wasn't there a set of steps set into the side of the rock on the grotto side?

That's correct Eddie, they started about 20 feet up the rock and they used to use a ladder from the Grotto in the old days to access the steps.

all the photos have gone ..?
i was at the grotto on saterday night,engagment party ,i should have took some photos from outside ,it looks lovley on a night time all lit up ...and the sea was so calm ..
