Chip Shop Let Down

Post by Chutch »

I was back in shields at the end of May with the in-laws and was disappointed, not to say embarassed that you couldn't find a chippy where you could sit down and have so good fish n chips. I'd been promising them this for ages (planned to go to Colmans) but they were all shut. Eatin out of the aper would have been ok normally, but we were staying in the Little Haven and just wanted to sit down.

Given it's a seaside town a thought there would be more to choose from. Found loads in Durham!

Hi Chutch I am sure you will eventually get your sit down fish and chips.

Tell me when you have fish and chips over there do you have vinegar or a wedge of lemon. Most fish and chips takeaways down here no longer give vinegar just lemon but only on request and an extra bit added to the cost. But in restaurants you will be lucky to find a bottle of vinegar on the table salt and pepper yes but no vinegar. Which amazes me as Vinegar used to be the integral or the epitome of all meals with fried fish crumbed battered but its gone.

Is Colmans shut down ?

If there isn't any in South Shields now ( that can't be right ).

There's two good ones the other side of the river.

One in Tynemouth Front Street and Bills chippy on the front at Cullercoats.

I think Colmans is still there but it happened to be shut on that day. There used to be Trebon as well, but I don;t think you could sit down in there.
Little Haven is my favourite hotel as well.

I stayed there everytime we came back from Sri Lanka for a visit.

Daft Lad,
If you had opened your eyes you would have found a sitdown chippy in the fair ground, also just outside, next to the new crazy golf course,
if they were all shut what time of the day was it?
If it was chucking it down with rain and it was close to midnight the owner may have thought it was not worth staying open in the hope you and your family might pop in.

Hi Jake and all, thank you for your welcome. I have to confess though that I;m bot entirely new.

I have returned from Sri Lanka where I lived and worked, It's taken a wile to find a new house and get my broadband set up, and in that time I think something must have happened to my original log on.

It seemed easier to start afresh as I couldn't find a contact point as a non member to get my old log in sorted out.

So that's that, Regarding the cip shops gwn the fair groun, and as someone brought up just off Ocean Road, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole! Any way they WERE shut as well.

Chutch, you say you are not new to these boards, so is it safe to assume that you used to be "Colombo" who posted now and again on here?

In this case John use of the name "Colombo" refers to the capital of Sri Lanka.
