Try Spice 1 behind the Nook, Not sure what the curries are like but the rest of the meals are good.

The Star of India was the last restaurant I used in Shields, about 3 years ago. Will be in again in January. I liked the Star too Colombo. I think its the longest established one in Ocean Rd?

I was going to the Star of India in the latter half of the fifties and into the early sixties after a night on the pop, always had a second curry as soon as the first one was eaten. God; I was a right pig in those days. There was always a few of us so the staff were always keen as mustard when we arrived there, we were good tippers in those days

We always used the Star of India in the sixties, I think everybody did.
They used to sit us at the back of the restaurant, I think they were frightened we'd run out without paying the bill.
Also used the Bengal if we were with girlfriends.
