Where was the Station Pub?

Post by michelle67 »

hi all,

I remember it being a listed building that was pulled down, it was located just down from where the Woudhave Bar, Mile End Road is today, but my husband and his parents seem to argue that it was where the Woudhave is now. Does anyone have any photos from back then probably around late 70's early 80's? I have done hundreds of searches for this and not found anything so far. There is an old picture of the corner of king street, it shows Royal Bar and you can see the old cinama but thats about it.
Can anyone shed any light on this.

thanks
michelle

The Station Hotel pub IS where the Wouldhave is now. I have a couple of photos of it back in the 70's/80's I can dig out if there is still interest?

I have 2 photos of the pub if I remember correctly, and one of the clock, close-up.

I also have a picture of the old Venue building, circa 1970ish, can't remember what it was called then.

Here are some of me oldies:

The North Eastern (Now Manhattans)

Old Ocean Road showing The Ship & Royal Hotel

Thats all I have online, but I have others I can put on later. Me & my brother-in-law are quite interested in local history, and have a gallery here, along with a pub guide, check here:

Amongst other crap!

Thanks for the welcome.

Crikey that looks like Ena Sharples leaving the Station Hotel. On her way to the Rovers Return.

I think the photo was taken during the war as the lorry has white lining to the mudguards to help it be seen in the blackout and the kerb stones and lamp post are painted with alternate black and white areas for the same reason.

You don't think it was brian, you know it was, I knew as soon as I saw
the photo as well, could have been as late as 46/47.
