Can remember a Mr Sing complete with turban and his suitcase calling regulary to our house at Marsden when I was a child,
my memories of him are how polite and cheerful he was.

The immigrants on Dean Terrace,did they not come from Uganda when Idi Amin kicked all the Asians out of his country. They were and still are involved in the Temple that was built in West Way.

Which only goes to show how daft the licensing laws were. I can remember where you had to order a meal to be able to get a drink on a Sunday in Scotland. I can remember when the indian restaurants were unlicensed and if you wanted a drink you had to bring your own. The off license in Ocean Road did a roaring trade. Can remember Billy Moore from joiners shop at Whitburn Pit. I think Joe Hughes was older brother of Bobbie Hughes fitting shop welder and Billie Hughes a blacksmith. Thought Joe drove an economic bus at one time.
