Re: Land of the tigers

It's been great but Steve Backshall is starting to get on my wick. It seems obligatory that every episode must feature his breathless commentary whilst his life hangs in the balance.

Re: What a disgrace.

It's terrible, I had the same problem with my two storey conservatory extension and drive thru halal smoothie bar, which I dedicated to the fallen of the two world wars. The council said I was cynically using the memory of our heroes to circumvent planning regulations. It's outrageous.

Re: Papal Visit

Given that the Papal visit to Australia in 2008 cost in the region of £40m, I think the true costs of the UK tour are hugely underestimated. Since there's an under the table agreement between our government and the Vatican to keep a lid on the costs we'll probably never know for a long time, at leas...

Global, I take your Psalm 14, and raise with Psalm 137:

Aren't your beloved Pslams full of heartwarming little gems?

All the shots were great. =D> =D> =D> It must have been a difficult choice, I'm not sure I could have chosen, although I'm not going to argue with the result.

Re: NO MOSQUE at Ground Zero... PERIOD!!!

My understanding is that the argument is not so much about whether there is an entitlement to build a mosque but more about the siting of it. There is already a mosque on the site, the planning request is to develop the building further. Do you think this should be closed? Yes, I do think that plan...

Re: NO MOSQUE at Ground Zero... PERIOD!!!

But if that is the case, then I just can't see why muslims don't quietly apply to extend a current mosque instead, build a new one elsewhere or... wait before they push this one through. ... Then it would have been politically expedient for muslims to quietly withdraw the applications, go to ground...

Re: NO MOSQUE at Ground Zero... PERIOD!!!

In other areas of life, such as hospitals, it used to be common practice to blame the junior doctor or nurse whenever a mistake, such as giving a wrong d*ug to a patient, was made. Today we avoid the 'blame game' and prefer root cause analysis to identify ways in which the system has failed. My poi...

Re: NO MOSQUE at Ground Zero... PERIOD!!!

The application for the religious centre is not new. The reason it's big news right now is that the US has Congressional elections looming and the right have chosen this as a cause célèbre to hang it's campaign on. It's a manufactured controversy, shameless dog-whistle politics, and it's suckered so...

Re: ADVICE WANTED

Personally I disagree with this idea of morality, simply because I think it's quite recidivist. It reminds me of a Doctor who keeps treating symptoms without ever attempting to cure the ailment. But any argumentation I could put forward would be pure speculation until we have been able to determine...

Re: Eilean Bharraigh ( photos )

Some cameras (like mine) have a variable auto exposure, but allow you to set everything auto whilst letting you compensate by upping the white balance. This does risk you having slightly bleached shots, particularly in sunny photos, so Mr Smith has a point in just going auto everything if you're not...

Re: Eilean Bharraigh ( photos )

Good shots Fenella. The photo with the daisies is excellent composition. I think Mr Smith is right about the exposure. My Samsung GX20 underexposes slightly so I have had to create custom exposure settings, but for auto use I have set the white balance up a notch - perhaps you could do this with you...

More excellent photos. I love the West coast of Scotland and would live there if I could. It's been 25 years since I've been to Barra, but would like to visit again some day.

Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders.
Blue, can you tell me the re-offending rate for Arpaio's former inmates and how it compares to other non Arpaio prisons, or how it compares with the re-offending rates before Arpaio took over?
