If you lived in the Laygate area in the 1940s an 1950s the above dvd is an essenial purchase. The photographs are amazing and bring back lots of memories.

The little boy in the adverts was called Mischief, he would have adventures such as this one http://www.southshields-sanddancers.co. ... scuits.htm They were on cards given away with Wrights own brand wagon wheel type biscuit.

There was one on the corner of John Williamson Street and Bertram Street originally called Marr then the name was changed to Pertels. The name Lockwoods rings a bell but I can't place it.

I was relieved that only one customer on the Sunday had a Sunday Times with it's extra bits and magazine; especially as they lived at the top of Reed Street.

I used to deliver papers for Johnny Foster when the other lads wanted a break. He was a good payer compared to the job I had at the paper shop in South Frederick Street; 25 shillings a week compared to 16 shillings a week.
