Re: Mid winter festival

Merry Christmas to you, too, pilot & everyone on the boards. http://i.imgur.com/yMj8PH9l.png http://i.imgur.com/0vvpL00l.png Photos were taken recently at Santa's Kingdom. My two grandchildren (who are cousins to each other) who are in the photos declared it the best day of their lives. They ...

Re: There are some fracken idiots in the NT

Money often wins out. I guess it's how these people became wealthy in the first place. There has to be a balance I suppose. We need some industry too. I'm not a fan of live export because of the cruelty that often goes with it. I'm not in favour of selling off our industries & land to big overseas c...

Re: Dislike Snow.

Two of my grandkids had the 'best day of their lives' (they're aged 2 & 3) the other day at a place called Santa's kingdom & one of the highlights was the snow falling. They thought it was great. It was foam.

Re: what breaks my heart, and whar does'nt.

I would never gladly torture anyone. I think it lessens the person who does it. But I agree with you that cruelty to animals is heartbreaking. It's just as bad when done to humans though. Most of the times it isn't done to people who are 'bad', it's done to people who are weaker, less powerful. Anyw...

Re: HELP!! wellington pub 1950's

I googled Wolseley arms sth shields and saw that thread, seemed to suggest the name of the hotel clart04 is interested in might have been called Duke of Wellington. Does your mother recall the name of the street it was in? Maybe it has undergone a name change but one of the locals might be able to h...

let the savages in the dominions have their bit of fun ralph their idea of class is shopping with shoes on! Thongs are good enough for anyone. :D As for Camilla, I've always thought it was a bit rugged she is judged so much on her looks. She looks like just about any other woman of close to 70-prob...

Re: equality ? i call it perverse.

I think part of the problem is defining equality as 'no difference/same'. I agree with the concept of no discrimination based on s*x, colour, religion in most workplaces and in most situations in daily life. But we have some groups who try to take things to the nth degree. I struck that in teaching ...

Re: Moths to a Flame

A lot of digital photos not only have the date, but also the geographical location embedded in them. It is also possible (and this surprised me more than the photos) that you can be spied on via absolutely anything that can be connected to the internet. Most of us think of that as computers etc but ...

Re: Moths to a Flame

It's probably easier for modern politicians to escape some scrutiny because the internet has really only become common in the last 20 years so for most politicians, their youthful indiscretions won't have been recorded. But the new ones coming up better take care what they photograph or send out on ...

Re: equality ? i call it perverse.

Why do people turn to islam? because it is there and a rising force. Same as the reason they may have joined cults 30 years back. Or communism in its day. Same as people became Nazis in Germany back in the 1930s. It was the up & coming -ism of the time. Yes, Christianity & Catholicism killed many pe...

Hey niagraa, Ancestry has a sale on at the moment (till 14 dec) DNA done for only $69. That is half price. The postage will be extra (about $29.95) but it's a bargain. Why not get it done anyway. You never know, it might connect you to new 2nd cousins etc. It works like in here to some extent with a...

Re: equality ? i call it perverse.

The way I see it is that most adults need a set of beliefs to live by, it makes life less complicated, gives them more confidence in the future & (probably most importantly) ties them in with their community. In the recent past, religion gave a lot of people all that. We can be as critical as we lik...

Re: equality ? i call it perverse.

As far as clothes go, I can say that young kids like to play dress ups & I don't think that matters. It doesn't mean a boy won't be masculine when he grows up. With stories, I do think some of them coming out have their own agenda. I first noticed this with books about the environment and pollution....

Re: Is it really time to seperate South East Queensland and FNQ?

yes, that's exactly right. We don't need more politicians, just better politicians.

In all reality though, they will always put money where the bulk of the population is. Greatest need, most votes.
