Re: brexit

Correct, beachbum. No point having a referendum if the powers that be don't like the result so can just call another one till they do get the result they want. The majority voted to leave, so leave. Doesn't matter if it was a close vote. Lots of political parties get into power with a close vote. Bi...

Re: Royal Engagement

I think Aud's right in that Diana sparked a lot more media interest in the royals, but I think most of that was about glamour. Not a lot has changed. These are different times, I suppose, where photos flash around the globe and I think the focus these days seems to be on the clothes the women wear a...

Re: Want to go to Mars?

They didn't even have a human poop bag, Aud. I remember reading once they released their waste into space. Apparently it was all frozen and sparkly but it's not something you'd want to bump into or see flying past you when you're out in space, is it!!

Re: Royal Engagement

You won't have Charles for that long, not compared to the Queen's time on the throne, anyway. It's not like they have that much power these days, they open a few events, represent their country at funerals, that sort of thing. Kings are always a bit boring to look at compared to the women so the emp...

Re: Royal Engagement

You don't have to respect him. That's not part of the deal. The whole point with royalty is it is a line of succession based on birth. It isn't a position like politics where someone is voted in. It is passed on from parent to child or else in a very strict, known order according to genetic closenes...

Re: Want to go to Mars?

I think they went alright, Aud. It doesn't matter what happens in the world any more, there is a conspiracy theory made to cover it. Just last night I was reading that something like 250,000 cars converged on the area in the days and hours before blast off. And millions of people. What a great thing...

Hasn't been on in a while, Aud. She may pop in again some time, I don't know.
She's still into photography though. :D
We all visited China together. I just let her take most of the photos.

I can see them.
Maybe I have special skills.

Mind you, they are appearing a lot fancier than most, in bright pink. :D
I'm sure you'd be happy if you could view them. :D

Re: brexit

I see Sir Elton John is now preaching from the stage, telling people he is ashamed of the UK and implying the people who voted to leave are stupid. What is it with the show biz crowd that they think because they get paid big bucks to sing or dance or act, that that makes them some sort of political ...

Re: BYE BYE EVERYBODY

No need to make any hard and fast decisions to leave, memor. Just be like me and pop in occasionally to keep in touch. Jake and Goat aren't around any more but there are other people.

Re: brexit

Well, you would hope they won't have to vote again, Andy. It would make a mockery of the process. I daresay the politicians know that, but I don't think all of them sound convinced it wasn't a mistake, a few stray votes and not really what the people could possibly have wanted. If they had been prop...

Re: brexit

Looks like a lovely spot, Jeff. Even the rocks. They are much more attractive than most of your politicians. As for Brexit, I don't believe your politicians really want to exit. It might be complicated but it's not that hard, it could be accomplished if they had the will and put their minds to...

I don't know, Sam. At least it was someone who was trying, which is more than you can say of some.

It was your chance to say what you'd like to see done in your area. Go for it. :D

Re: Anzac

Very interesting, Jeff. Thank you The section of letter I posted above was written by a young soldier, William, to his father in Birchip, Vic. It was an account of the battle of Sari Bair. He survived the war, came back, married and had a family but died in June 1939 at the relatively young age of 5...

Probably suitable for ANZAC day too. http://i.imgur.com/e0vHnjp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Wjn5VYo.jpg I've lately been putting together some of the family history too, and here's a small bit of a letter writt...

Re: brexit

Those 73 who represent Britain "for as long as the country remains in the bloc' won't be in any tearing hurry to leave. The longer you stay in, the longer they get their wage.
Maybe cut them out of any negotiations for a start, they have a conflict of interest.

Re: brexit

Maybe 2 years isn't a long enough time in the first place regardless whether it is the UK or any other country wanting to leave the EU. Two years isn't all that long, granted. But it is long enough if they had really tried. The months fly by if you sit around and procrastinate or just talk about it...
