Re: DEAN ROAD (the deans end)

The Crater as we all knew it ( and it's still called that today) was indeed where a land mine dropped during the last war I have some photos of the actual crater left by the mine; all of the windows were blown out, and a lot of the roof slates were blown off, none of the houses escaped damage. I don...

Re: DEAN ROAD (the deans end)

I started this thread asking if any one had photos of the shops which stood between Francis St. and Florence St. I didnt expect the response that has happened. It has been great just to read the memories of those of you who lived around there. I Would like to thank "JEFF" in particular for...

The little bridge was known as "Pulley Bank", I used to take my dads horse to get shoes on at the blacksmith just over the bridge from the baths. Alfred Watson was the name of the firm. That would be in the fifties

Re: Edwards Street 1925 CUMMINGS genealogy

I was in the library yesterday and i checked the electoral rolls from 1920 to 1935 and there is no Cummings in EDWARD ST. between those dates. Edward street was near where Crossgate is today it no longer exists, it was pulled down many years ago. There was another street in S. Shields called H.S. Ed...

Searching for MAURICE POLLARD born 1921

Does anyone have any info on a Maurice Pollard born 1921. He served in royal navy during the war, I think he may have married a girl called Ivy ????? sometime in the 1950s. Before he was married he lived in James Mather St. between 1921 and 1949 with his parents Henry Morrison Pollard, and Lillian D...

Re: Old photographers that are well known in South Shields?

Re: Old photographers that are well known in South Shields?

Bill Clavery took many photos in and around So. Shields, mainly of the place itself, we should be grateful to him for recording some of the places which have long since vanished under the bulldozer. Many of his pictures have been published in the Gazette in the Cookson Country page done by Janice Bl...

Re: ww2 bunker at the leisure center.

I walked past the "bunker" this morning and read a notice tied to a lamp post and it stated that it was something to do with an old landfill site, it certianly didnt look like anything to do with cable work, also it was only next to the old civil defence bunker and the excavations were not...

Re: eureka pub

I have already taken some pictures of the pub and intend to take some more of it gradually disappearing. It seems funny that they started the demolition of Frederick St. with the Eureka when the rest of the street has been left to go to wreck and riun by the present day owners, who are only intereste...
