Re: Commercial road pub

Many thanks for the other photo….. in a curious quirk of fate, my dad, who married into the Taylor family, worked at Readheads all his working life…spooky :D

Re: Commercial road pub

Well I eventually got around to having a look at the website you suggested. German John, the place I was looking for was the Burton Cellars not the Burton Arms. Looking back at the census the place I was looking for was next door to the Neptune Hotel, and I found this photo on the website http://img...

Mr Tweddle (Dan) was deputy head at King Edwards School when my OH was there in the 1970s he was very keen on local history and had a mini museum in the school. They havent finished publishing the books yet, think there are 10 all together. My kids liked the one about the school, as they both go the...

Re: river Tyne photos

great photo Mr A! Shame the river looks so empty, even when I was a kid there were ships in the river. My Dad was working at TDE right up until it closed. The pics of the yard were taken after that when there was no one around.

Re: river Tyne photos

My Dad served his time as a riveter at Readheads in the 50s, did his national service mid 50s then back to Readheads till he retired 10 years ago. I'm guessing our Dads would have known each other.

Re: Can you help info about Morpeth

If you can, try to find copies of the books "Town Trail for Morpethians" by A H Tweddle. The local history society is in the process of reprinting updated copies of these trails. They are available from the Chantry (tourist info office) and are more than just a walking guide. if you get in...
