Re: Barnes Road School
Here's another photo' of the Barnes Road Junior School team from 1961/62 season. We all look pleased with ourselves. Re: Taylor Street 1920 to 1940
Mr Galley has been mentioned by some of you and so I thought you would like to see him with the Barnes Road Junior School football team that he was involved with during my time at the school. The photograph would have been taken in about 1961/62. I cannot remember what the trophy was for but we all ...

Re: Taylor Street 1920 to 1940
My family lived at 61 Taylor Street from the early 1900’s until the property was demolished in 1960. I have the census record for 1911 showing my grandparents, Joseph and Mary Bedlington, and their children, including my mother aged 7, living at the address. As a child I lived there from 1950 until...

Re: Old Street Names
Do you know the names of the one's who became Tyne Pilots ? As I have a definitive list going back a long way. My great, great grandfather, William Bedlington, was born in 1808. From his marriage certificate of 1839 I know that he was a pilot working on the Tyne. Census records from 1841 onwards al...

Re: Old Cinemas
One of my interests is in researching the history and location of old cinemas,(the buildings, architects and owners rather than the films which were shown there) particularly those no longer with us. My links with the North East and South Shields is through my wife's family but we rarely get to vis...

Re: Shadwell Street
There are lots of Street names which have changed in Shields since the 1800s. I have three old ordinance maps from the 1800s covering all of South Shields. River Drive as we know it was called Pilot Street, Wapping Street used to be called Shadwell Street and so on; the list is quite extensive. The...

Re: Taylor Street 1920 to 1940
Jimmywizz - just a small correction - the school photograph is of a class at Barnes Road Junior School, with Mr Galley the teacher standing to the left. I attended the school when I lived at Taylor Street and have my class photo, also with Mr Galley (c1960).
