Re: BYE BYE EVERYBODY

Memor why go? You turning off the internet altogether? When I came on here in 2003 I used to enjoy your family stories ... very funny I only pop in now and then and from what I've seen you were doing the same In fact I think you already had a long stint of absence Official departures seem to sound ...

Re: brexit

What really irritates me, is the way reporters keep going onto the streets and picking on bloody idiots to ask their opinions about what is happening. So many, particularly the young, who we are told are all important because 'it is their future we are dealing with' say things like: "I don't really ...

Re: Summer/Winter Holidays

I remember that one. How he and his wife could do that to their children is difficult to comprehend. Even though he was deeply in debt as a result of failed property investments. From reports I saw, he seemed unable to understand why his son refused to have anything more to do with him. Yes, it was...

Re: Summer/Winter Holidays

Funnily enough, while we have spent more than a year of our lives in Panama,we have only seen the Canal from the air as we arrive at or fly from the airport at Panama City. We then have to catch a connecting flight to David (pronounced Daveed) airport where we are about an hours drive from the cond...

Re: brexit

I see Sir Elton John is now preaching from the stage, telling people he is ashamed of the UK and implying the people who voted to leave are stupid. What is it with the show biz crowd that they think because they get paid big bucks to sing or dance or act, that that makes them some sort of political...

Re: BYE BYE EVERYBODY

I came on here (someone pass me a cloth) about 1997. I've had a lovely time I've had some great arguments with the Great Jake and GOAT Some fabulous laughs...... Time to say good bye to everyone and good luck. As you say Memor, we have had a lot of laughs and 'chewed a lot of fat' over the years an...

Re: brexit

It has all become stupefyingly boring, which is probably why the Liberal democrats are yet again experiencing one of their oft repeated brief moments in the sun and no doubt the Green Party will also eventually drop back to being supported only by well meaning fringe groups. Who know what would happ...

Re: Summer/Winter Holidays

We live in the "Banana Belt" of Canada and are completely south of several US states. Central America is right now in the rainy season which is why we come back to our summer here. There might be some parts of Canada in which hell might freeze over for 7 months of the year but we don't live there. ...

Re: surprize

Sam, about a month ago, a recently retired Councilor who had served for a great many years on our local Council, attended a residents meeting at the flats in which I live. He was there to give us advice on fighting a developer's application to build an apartment block very close to ours. For years t...

If our politicians are beginning to feel a little nervous about the next elections, The Presidential Election in Ukraine, where a comedian and newcomer to politics has just won by taking 70% of the vote, is the stuff of nightmares.

Re: brexit

Rosie, the 73 will be the ones representing us at the Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg, the rest of them will be MEP's for the other countries in the EU. Of our 73, the UKIP ones know that they will be out of a job if they succeed in their main policy i.e. leaving the EU, the rest of the 73 wi...

Re: brexit

Can I ask another couple of questions? I read this this morning "more than 700 MEPs elected by the public, 73 of which will be representing Britain for as long as the country remains in the bloc," 700 elected and 73 representing Britain. Why elect 700 when only 73 represent Britain? Who pays these ...

Ralph the more I read the more I get confused. It is very hard to find real information about the deal that Mrs. May wants to get passed in parliament and what the problems are with it. I did read somewhere about the talks she had with Corbyn and the things he wanted to change, can't remember now w...

Re: brexit

I remember when the UK joined the common market, as it was initially called, and I must admit I thought it a good idea. I don't agree with what it has evolved into today. As an outsider looking in, and that is what I am these days, Britain may as well not have a government of it's own. If the Briti...

Maybe 2 years isn't a long enough time in the first place regardless whether it is the UK or any other country wanting to leave the EU.
I've got to that age when two years is a long time!

Re: brexit

I wouldn't overly worry about America. I know they have tended to step into other countries a fair bit but my understanding of what Trump wanted was to concentrate on USA and stop spending the money overseas. The funny thing is, people complain when USA interferes then complain when it doesn't step...

Re: brexit

I don't think anything dire will happen if Britain leaves the EU. I think change is always a challenge & people worry about it, but once it happens, people adjust. They should just do it. Never know till you give it a go. it might even be better. Sherri, of course there is quite a mix of reasons gi...
