Re: HENDRIX IN SOUTH SHIELDS WERE YOU THERE ????

Hey Gringo.
This has been an interesting chat.
I've heard that tale before, about them borrowing an amp, but I have no recollection of that happening.

Re: HENDRIX IN SOUTH SHIELDS WERE YOU THERE ????

Gringo, I like your style so I tell you a couple of tales. BUT....nothing here is for publication....just between us sanddancers....right? First off. I did play a white Precision, but I retired from public playing in 1975, so it wasn't me at the New Crown. A quick potted history of the Bond. I'm a b...

Re: HENDRIX IN SOUTH SHIELDS WERE YOU THERE ????

Gringo, No, I don't know where it is now. I do remember who I sold it to, though. One of my biggest regrets! Regarding the hole in the ceiling. If you look at the pics you posted, there was a sort of plasterboard false ceiling disc above the revolving stage. The whole thing moved round as a unit. Th...

Re: HENDRIX IN SOUTH SHIELDS WERE YOU THERE ????

You see that cross around his neck? It was a red enamelled maltese cross (cheap brass back, of no particular value). I found it on the floor backstage after the concert. I wore it on a leather thong for years afterwards. One time when I was really hard up I sold it for £10  Wish I hadn't now [...

Re: HENDRIX IN SOUTH SHIELDS WERE YOU THERE ????

Hi Gringo. The show was apparently recorded by the drummer of The Bond, who were supporting the Hendrix Experience on the night. I really don't think that was true. [-X I was the bass player with The Bond on that night. As far as I remember no-one recorded anything. The story about the revolving sta...

Re: Burndept/Vidor photographs etc.

I worked at River Drive from 1970 to 1974. I was in the battery making machinery section working under Calder Lewis and alongside Gordon Avery and Charlie Ford. I don't dwell much on that time in my life 'cos I was a bit of a waste of space.....I've grown out of it now, thankfully! I remember Jimmy ...

The pub that you're thinking about, behind the marine park and ocean road was probably the Lord Nelson.
The original General Havelock, which the one in Chapter Row replaced, was in a side street somewhere in the vicinity of what is now the post office sorting rooms.......I think!

The Bridge was the favourite for us yung'uns back around '64/65 because the back room didn't have a bar counter so we could go and sit in there and send the 'big lad' through to the front bar to get the pints of Starbright for One and a penny.
